Mirror Installation
Installation of mirrors depends on the the purpose and condition of the wall behind. There are two types of mirrors:
Mirror with no vinyl backing: Glue/mastic is needed for installing these mirrors so in case they break, glue/mastic holds the pieces to not come off the wall.
Mirror with vinyl backing: Glue/mastic is not needed for installation since the vinyl backing holds the mirror together even if it breaks. Only if the wall behind the mirror is not level, glue/mastic would be suggested for installing.
Installing mirrors would need:
J bar (J channel) for the bottom to hold the weight of the mirror
Mirror clips for the top
Screws
Level & tape measure
Power tool
By following these steps, you can safely and securely install a mirror using a J bar:
Position and secure the J bar: Place the J bar horizontally leveled at the desired height on the wall, whether it's drywall, stucco, concrete, or wood. If you're mounting it on drywall, make sure to locate the studs behind the drywall. Use appropriate anchors or screws to secure the J bar to the wall. If you're attaching it to studs, drive the screws all the way in so that the screw heads are flush with the J bar surface.
Slide the mirror: Carefully slide the mirror into the J bar. Ensure that it's securely positioned within the J bar.
Install mirror clips: Place mirror clips on top of the mirror. When attaching the clips into drywall, there is not need to do into the studs or too tight. These clips don’t hold any weight.
